About the Poems - NSAbout the Poemsby Nicole Steinberg As might already be obvious, I visited Tokyo this year. I was ill for the majority of my fifteen days there and most of the trip felt hazy and dreamlike as I ventured throughout the city despite the flu I'd picked up on the flight over. This group of Tokyo poems attempts to capture that clouded feeling and wades through various details and oddities of my trip, weaving glimpses of a double-sided fairytale: an uneasy romance that unfolds in the sprawling, sedated, clustered city, and a romance with the city itself. One might wonder where the bird imagery fits in; I was there to visit a dear friend who researches in the field of neuroscience and spends his days researching the vocal behaviors and patterns of birds. This research requires needles. |
