About the Poems
by Craig Morgan Teicher For a long time in my poetry-reading life, I had never understood how poems divided into numbered parts worked. I just never understood it–how are the parts linked? Does the order matter? Could part 4 be part 1? And then, as I got going on the poems that would eventually become my first book, I began to figure it out: poems in little parts are handy if you have a bunch of little poems that are related to each other but don't quite stand alone. And then, a while later, I got really addicted to the idea of little parts, maybe too addicted...I kinda went crazy...hence these poems, which are really just a bunch of parts hanging out together, pretending to be poems.
