About the Poems
by Kathleen Jesme These poems are part of a longer series that began on a trip to New York City a couple of years after 9/11. I began to notice how things had changed, especially at the airports, which have become mind-numbing animal traps, but also in so many other aspects of society. I asked myself, how have I changed in times in which civil liberties are under such attack? How do I resist being drawn in to catastrophe and its aftermath, fear? How does an individual continue ordinary living in extreme times? This series is the result of these reflections.
