About the Poems - DDAbout the Poemsby Denise Duhamel After experimenting with nontraditional forms for a while, I began looking for physical forms that suggested poems or how poems could be written. I wrote "Universal Poems ™," trying to imagine some of the places poems could be written, and then soon after did try to write a poem on a pinwheel, what I offered as an example in the first line of the poem. "Gossip Pinwheel" exists not only on paper and on the web in No Tell Motel, but there is a physical pinwheel version as well. "Royal" really exists on a typewriter ribbon, and "Working Stiff Cylinder" on a hamster wheel. "Unstar Saturn: Six Transposition Tales" is a poem dependent on anagrams. It hasn't fulfilled its 3-D promise as of yet, but I see it as a diorama with lots of little mirrors so the words could be read forward and backward. |
