About the Poems - JTAbout the Poemsby Jennifer Tamayo These poems about are about orientation. At some point (ha!) during the writing of the hanging cloud of read mistakes I decided the project was less like a book and more like a map. So I started treating my poems like directions and pathways. I liked the way words (their sounds, their texture, their aura) could act as trajectory. In keeping with the autobiographical thrust of the project, the "places" in the poems are places I have "been" ; their translation into written works are an attempt to recreate those spaces via language. For the most part, the attempt to recreate the space was a failure. These places, as experienced in the poems, feel flat and long and alien—but that seems in keeping with the rest of project, so hurrah. |
