About the Poems - JPDBAbout the Poemsby J. P. Dancing Bear Four of these poems have some degree of ekphrasis to them. “To Live in the Hair of the Sargasso Sea” is entirely an ekphrastic piece; but “Your Robot Girl,” “Pacific Horizon” and “Waltz on Black Velvet” were written as part of my “birthday poems” project which is part ekphrastic, but also pulls in influences from other inspirations, including the honorees themselves. “Pacific Horizon” holds a particular distinction in that I wrote it for “Craig Arnold” although it was NOT on his birthday, but a farewell, since he passed before his birthday arrived. “Quadruple Life” was written to address the stress of living in a modern world where work and life demand more and more of our “free time” including sleep time, and combining that with the old romantic notion/phrase of “leading a double life.” |
