About the Poems
by Tamiko Beyer These poems come from my manuscript-in-process, We Come Elemental. I am exploring what I have termed a “queer::eco::poetics.” It begins with the premise that queers are “freaks of nature,” and investigates the relationship between water and humanity from the position of being pushed outside of, and yet deeply entwined with “nature.” I am interested in the pervasive presence of water both on the earth and in our bodies, and the manuscript attempts to make sense of the connections between human bodies and bodies of water, how we destroy and are destroyed as we swallow up the earth and its water.
