About the Poems
by L. Lamar Wilson These poems explore the ironies of religious and same-sex desire commingling, of the deceit inherent in clandestine courtship, of human self-sacrifice and its aftermath. I’ve known this struggle as well as the liberating power of self-love. But these poems are not about liberation. They mine the desperation that drives so many men who desire men and show the devastation that desperation often leaves in its wake. My manuscript explores this journey from desperation to liberation, from blind religiosity to a different kind of holy. These poems are some of the dark chapters.
