About the Poems
by J. A. Tyler Variations of a Brother War is a poetic novel(la) built on triptychs, with each poem set at exactly 100 words. I created these limits for myself in order to restrain the writing, to make it do more in a shorter space, and what happened was a redefining and a loss that mimicked the loss of the brothers, the loss of family to war, the loss of love. What happened was that the fist couldn't just show itself shaking towards a face but instead was forced to be curled and cocked, drawn back, each poem taking place at the precipice of action.
