by Joseph Harrington Some nature poets are inspired by William Wordsworth; me, I’m inspired by cartoonist Tex Avery, who has had a much greater influence on Americans’ view of nature, IMO. “Messed up” modifies both “nature” and “poems,” of course. The monotheistic religions come in for some razzing, when they behave “as if the earth under our feet/ were/ an excrement of some sky,” which they do do. Fortunately, most other species are remarkably free of bullshit.
