About the Poems
by Carmen Giménez Smith These poems are from a manuscript I'm calling Feminine Agency. University of Arizona Press will be publishing it next year or so. I'd been wanting to write a second wave feminist tribute book, and I found that persona poems were a major trope in a lot of seventies feminist poetry, so I tried to recreate that while also referencing language and affect from Angela Carter's work. I found a poem I wrote in college, when I was knee deep in No More Masks, and I was amazed at how much more aggressive and defiant I was, so I incorporated that spirit as well. My hope is that the poems are both second and third wave, all at once.
