About the Poems
by Shirley Stephenson These poems are gypsy-like, each originating from a different geographical location and wearing its own style of dress. "First Water" references water's ritual of carrying on until it finds the right home, the intended body. The poems that No Tell Motel has been welcoming enough to lodge all have something to do with that movement, and what impels it. Often it's the wildly inconvenient desire to find something we cannot define, but can remember, or imagine, or trust.
