About the Poems - AKAbout the Poemsby Amy King These poems were designed to appeal to people with short attention spans at risk of distracting people with longer attention spans. To gauge the success of these poems, you must first determine the length of your attention span. Locate a form of measure such as a postage scale, pair of handcuffs, or video camera. Next, identify the expectations with which you will approach these poems.* After a first and second read, express the degree of delight experienced when your expectations were not met. If the amount of your delight exceeds or compounds any vertigo experienced, you may record these poems as “successful.” If you determine the opposite imbalance to be true, label these poems “sufficient” or “capable.” If none of the above applies, mark “nothing applies” and request a refund. Feel free to report your findings at www.amyking.org or to the manager at No Tell Motel. *Topics to consider as you outline your expectations: love, pop culture, religion, gender, global warming, capitalism, public expression, mass transportation, edification, personal aversions, Greenhouse Effect, sex appeal, the maker’s plan, an architecture for poetry, your current setting, a dot on the map, etc. |
