by Lisa Fishman These poems are part of a new manuscript, 356 Days. They seem to be, in different ways, about error, which is also part of the ms.'s title. When I think about the present state of things, I hear Hamlet, if it was he who said "the time is sick and out of joynt." The book written in this time/in these times seems involved with that, as a commentary (criticism, in Stevens' sense) and as a manifestation. Seeing, running, singing, seeming, spelling . . . I guess those are the ways in which error happens to be manifest in this particular group of poems from that work.
