About the Poems - EGAbout the Poemsby Elisa Gabbert "Blogpoem for Joe" and "Epistolary Blogpoem" are from a series I wrote in April 2006 (under the auspices of NaPoWriMo). I wrote a poem every day and my friend the poet Chris Tonelli posted them on his blog (hence, blogpoems). Given the constraints of the project the poems tend to sieze upon some small thought or idea as inspiration and really wring the crap out of it. "Blogpoem for Joe" was written "for" Joe Spurr, my first and still only friend named Joe. "Epistolary Blogpoem" was inspired by another poet-friend, Simeon Berry, who sent me a painfully complex spreadsheet-based "submission engine." I hate spreadsheets. No offense to Simeon. "The Dream Because Love Ends" is partially based on a dream I really had; when I say that my brother and my ex-boyfriend "make me feel fucking horrible" I say it very much out of love. "After I Subconsciously Plagiarized You" was inspired by actual events, i.e., I read about a few such incidents in the news, and frankly, this phenomenon worries me. "Fugue/Flight" is partially "for" my non-poet-friend Chris Starkey. I often get ideas for poems when I'm out walking at night. Sometimes you have to risk getting mugged for your art. |
