Valentine (III)Dan PinkertonRemember the Twilight Zone where the guy buys a love potion? Bad news, major backfire, no big shock. We, on the other hand, ration our elixir, doling out doses like methadone. When things get good we cork the bottle: a fortnight’s abstinence with no valid cause; a battle over your bringing the baby into our bed; the fact that I lost your headphones, forcing you at the gym to listen from your treadmill as two fat women ridiculed a third. Moderation. Take care with this substance or you might end up nametagged, nursing decaf in the mildewed basement of a church. Dan Pinkerton Read Bio Author Discusses Poems |
