Could a Story Have Only One Face?

Jenna Cardinale

We talk terribly of this
race in the right
direction. Colors can
be heavy and sincere.

Much like cosmetics.
The apothecary on
TV might help
the skin, this hair. We aren’t
warned of the danger, the dismantling
of our fine things.

Child, I will write
your name. Letter
carefully, like my Catholic
grandmother’s script. I will write it
only every day.

I will write you
for everyone!

But never in a bible.
Or a ledger.
