Awake before Daylight

Corey Mesler

Nothing looks good at 4:30 a.m.
Hour of doubts and heartquake.
Nothing gets solved, or resolved. All
is failure. Too early even to make the
coffee, to jump-start the routine. The
mind spins in place, the usual dis-
tractions balloon. Only pre-
scription: wait: let the body fill itself
slowly, let the day open like a chill.
