from The way birds become homonyms: an aviary

Joseph Bradshaw

Oh that. That's a million / birds as yet unformed.

          *

The planes of a bird equal "if."
If you look out
a window from within a bird
you'll be frightened by the idea
that it's an eye – same when someone
else's hand will crush the bird and seem
huge. Blood takes forever then
you'll be soaked forever
a changed color. And you couldn't pull
a blanket over the forehead
no matter how stiff the bird.
